“UNITED AGAINST BULLIES TODAY”
SEEKING BOYS AND GIRLS, YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN, TO PARTAKE IN CONNECTICUT’S USA PAGEANT AND STAND UP AGAINST BULLYING!
October 27th Event Hosted by 2012 Miss Teen USA - Logan West
New Haven, CT, October 8, 2013: Connecticut’s 2013 USA “United Against Bullies Today” Pageant will be hosted by 2012 Miss Teen USA, Logan West on Sunday, October 27th, 2013 at John C. Daniels School in New Haven and both girls and boys, young men and women, are invited to partake in the competition.
A Southington, CT native, Ms. West was the first state resident ever to win the Miss Teen USA competition. Miss Teen USA 2012 seeks to raise awareness and funds to support her national educational foundation – “Unite Against Bullies Today.” According to the Connecticut Commission on Children, 25% of the state’s high school students – and 35% of the state’s 9th graders – report having been bullied or harassed on high school property. The Connecticut School Health Survey shows that state high schools students who report being bullied are more likely to get less sleep, miss school because they feel unsafe, feel depressed, or attempt suicide. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death in children who are 10 to 14 years old and the third-leading cause for people age 15 to 24. The Pageant will provide Anti-Bullying information and Logan West will provide inspiring leadership throughout the day on how students can take a stand against bullying, in and out of the classroom.
The mission of the Connecticut USA Extravaganza Pageant is to help both girls and boys, young men and women, develop self-confidence, poise, public speaking and interview skills, a sense of fashion, modeling experience, develop a special talent, and get an appreciation for community service. Contestants will compete in evening attire, summer outfit, on-stage question, and judge interviews with optional events including awards for talent, most photogenic, and for community service. In addition, Miss West seeks to educate and recruit Anti-Bullying Ambassadors to promote her message throughout the state of Connecticut and America. October is Anti-Bully Awareness Month across the USA.
A special educational workshop and pageant rehearsal, included as part of the contestant’s entry fee, will be conducted on October 26th from 10am-1pm. Ms. West and other world-class experts will be on hand to provide advice on fashion, modeling, public speaking, interview techniques, and pageant tips for success.
