Connecticut's Mayor of New Orleans

Henry Champion Deming was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, served as Governor and was Mayor of Hartford (1854 -1858, and 1860 to 1862)

In 1861, he was appointed Colonel of the 12th Connecticut Infantry Regiment, and accompanied Gen. Butler's expedition to New Orleans. After the New Orleans fell, Deming was detailed to serve as Mayor of that city, a position he held until l January of 1863.
