John Davis Lodge (October 20, 1903 – October 29, 1985), was an actor who served as Connecticut’s 79th Governor (From 1951 to 1955) as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Spain, Argentina, and Switzerland. His was the descendent of an old and distinguished line of notable New Englanders.
An attorney who was raised in Washington DC., Lodge moved to Hollywood in the 1930s and starred in two dozen films as well as a few Broadway productions.
In 1947, after retiring from films, he was elected as a Republican from Connecticut's 4th congressional district and was elected Governor in 1951 to January 1955 but was defeated for reelection in 1954 by Abraham Ribicoff.
